Charity New Zealand (Charity NZ) has celebrated its six months achievement last Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Newlands Intermediate School Newlands, Wellington with strict observation of Covid Protocols. Mayor of Wellington City and other distinguished guests from Al-Ameen Trust and the High Commission of Pakistan have attended this event. A large number of multi-ethnic communities were present with their families. Mr. Rehan Badar from Charity NZ Trustee’s team welcomed the participants and formally started the event. Mrs. Sumaira Amjad, MC/host of the program introduced the purpose and objective of this organization after the recitation of The Holy Quran.
In his speech, Chairperson and a founder of the Charity NZ, Mr. Athar Awan, stated: “We started Charity NZ operations from August 14, 2021, with four workstreams for Youth, Adults and Senior citizens. We have delivered several workshops in the short span of last six months”, he acknowledged the sacrifices made by his own family and the contribution of his team to this phenomenal cause.
Amjad Ali, Charity New Zealand’s trustees briefed about delivery of professional workshops over the period of last six-months, he stated:”we have delivered workshops covering topics of Clouds, Python coding, Business Continuity, Cyber Security in addition to one-to-one mentoring of professionals who are struggling to change their career path”
Chief guest, Mayor of Wellington City along with Sheikh Khalid, Al-Ameen trustees distributed certificates to the participants of the STEM workshops conducted during the last six months that is boys and girls from age 7 to 15 years. Awards were categorized into three titles are Participant, Achievement, and Excellence. Tehami Athar and Abdulhadi Athar who lead this STEM workstream stated: “We have prepared them foundation level and now they are ready to start intermediate and some even advanced STEM levels”.
Mr. Andy Foster, Mayor of Wellington City acknowledged the contribution of Charity NZ and its team and communities who dedicated their time to send their children for the STEM programs. He highlighted the importance of STEM and skilled professional education for New Zealand “As a nation, this STEM area where we are efficient if we are going to go well, we need these kinds of STEM programs, especially for the city like Wellington. We don’t have a lot of manufacturing, but we do have these skills, and this is our future” said the Mayor of Wellington.
Mr. Ahmed Elsawaf, Al-Ameen trustee and Project Manager for the January 2022 STEM project highlighted the key aspects of collaborative efforts and future prospects. He stated: “The real purpose from those workshops were to open the space for those kids to experiment something new, to feel comfortable about technology and to explore the opportunities, applications and the power that they can possess if they could control the technology.Hopefully we succeeded in achieving those objectives somehow as I interpreted the amazing glazes and the wow expressions on the faces of most kids during those workshops”
Mr. Athar Awan, Chairperson Charity New Zealand along with the chief guest completed the thanksgiving segment by presenting gifts to the volunteers and youth leads. Celebrations ended with a delicious dinner and networking.
